Bentwood Boxes, Paddles, and other cultural traditions.

Mitchell is a self-taught Tlingit carver from Yakutat who creates with his community in mind. With cultural heritage at the forefront, he makes funerary bentwood boxes, ceremonial paddles, and other pieces to give away for canoe journeys and other gatherings. His work is rooted in tradition but guided by the needs of the people around him. He carves to honor his ancestors, and keep Tlingit practices alive. Every piece carries intention and care, reflecting a connection to both the land and the culture within.
